Kathryn Hagy

I'm a Pacific Northwest native who’s passionate about art and education. I started Splashing Cat Studio to share the joy of art with other families. My goal is to foster kids’ creativity and confidence through fun, engaging art experiences.

I'm a mom to energetic tween twins, three curious cats, and one goofy dog. My kids and I enjoy art, crafts, cooking, and exploring museums and cultural spots together.

My Background

I earned a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) in Painting and Printmaking from the University of Washington, and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Rhode Island School of Design. My artistic education includes working in New York City's art galleries and a fine art print shop, and exhibiting my prints and photographs nationally and internationally, in countries such as Belgium, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. More recently, I completed a PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Iowa. In addition, I’m certified in CPR and first aid.

My Teaching Experience

I spent 17 wonderful years teaching drawing, painting, printmaking, art appreciation, and art history at Mount Mercy University in Iowa. I’ve also taught and led art workshops abroad in places like South Korea, France, Mexico, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

Raja, the splashing cat, demonstrates the origin of the name “Splashing Cat Studio.”

Why the Name “Splashing Cat Studio?

Our sweet family cat, Raja, has a quirky habit: he loves to scoop and splash water from his bowl onto the floor. He’s always been fascinated by moving water and plays with it just to make it ripple and flow. Check out the video to see him in action!

That same playful spirit and curiosity is what I hope to spark in kids through art. And that’s how Splashing Cat Studio got its name!
